Comment: I saw this advertised on T.V. last weekend and decided I had to have one - it is such a great idea to have the shredder shred directly into Gladware bowls! My Slicer/Shredder arrived yesterday and the first thing I tried was shredding some lettuce -- I used the "shred" side of the blade that it comes with, and ended up with lettuce shredded so finely that it was more like lettuce paste -- it was completely unusable in either tacos or anything else, and I had to discard it. So then I flipped the blade to the "slice" side and tried again -- this time the lettuce was shredded slightly larger, we used it for tacos, but the lettuce was so finely shredded that the warmth of the taco meat actually wilted the lettuce to the point where it just disappeared and you couldn't tell there was lettuce in the taco! Tonight I decided to give the shredder another chance, so I tried grating some Asiago cheese -- the motor instantly gave out a high pitched whine that wouldn't go away, and a smell of electrical wires burning filled my kitchen -- I double checked everything to make sure I had screwed the blade on correctly and everything was fine so I tried again a couple of times but the whine and burning smell came back each time. Needless to say, I'm returning this item. I really wish it had worked -- I love the Gladware bowls feature, but next time I think I'll spend my money on another brand of shredder -- and I'll just dump the lettuce, et al. into separate Gladware bowls!

What a work and time saver in the kitchen! I've never tried to calculate the number of hours I've spent in front of a cutting board, knife in hand, slicing tomatoes, shredding carrots, chopping lettuce. Nor do I care to be reminded of how often I've not made a dish we love simply because of the time involved in slicing or shredding.

This shredder/slicer from Hamilton Beach is an amazing small appliance that prepares lettuce for tacos before I can turn around, and shreds carrots for our favorite carrot-raisin salad before I can take the raisins out of the box! Not only does it shred or slice whatever I need in a minute's time, but the result is so much more attractive than I could ever do by hand.

To make the task even easier, the Change-A-Bowl comes with - you guessed it, extra bowls so that there's no need to stop and wash the permanent bowl if you're preparing several different ingredients. Three GladWare bowls are included in the box.

Plus the Change-A-Bowl comes with two discs - the slice/shred disc and the fine shred/crinkle-cut disc (You won't believe those French fries!) All of the parts are dishwasher safe, so the clean-up is a breeze.

With holidays fast approaching this is one appliance that will be used over and over again. It weighs just 8 pounds. But, if you ask me, it's worth its weight in gold!
