I bought this food processor because I was lured by the claim that I would not have to pre-chop vegetables because of the wide feed chute at the top of the processor. What the package neglects to tell the consumer, however, is that the motor will not engage unless you have the food pusher inside of the feed chute. Meaning the claims that this will slice whole cucumbers is untrue. I had to cut the cucumbers into fourths in order to have the food pusher engaging the spring in the feed chute to allow the motor to turn on. Even whole carrots need to be pre-cut before they can be sliced or shredded. This is true when one is using both the wide mouth and the small mouth food chute.
The package also claims that this will fit whole foods, including tomatoes, cucumbers, and potatoes. Also not true, unless you are using very small potatoes or tomatoes. Save yourself time and money. I had a GE food processor that I bought back in the 1980 that the shaft starting locking up. So time to get another one. Easier said than done. After looking at all the reviews and getting more confused I went to a local store and bought the Hamilton Beach 70580. It is much larger than my old GE and probably do only about 1/4 the amount of food at a time. It has an open stem in the bottom of each bowl that come up about 2 inches in the bowls (12 cup and a 4 cup) which can only do about 2 cups of food without spilling out the center when the bowl is removed to pour the food out. On my GE the shaft screwed in like a blender. What I would like to know is why the people designing these PF are thinking? I want a PF that works. BTW the liquid fill line is only a inch from the bottom of the bowl on both bowls. When we took it out of the box my husband said "What is this"? I bought it yesterday and it's going back today.
