Summary: FABULOUS!! 2010-08-31
Comment: I had never understood the reason for a food mill until I made Apple Butter this weekend. Recipe called for the mill or a chinois, so I was thrilled. Putting cooked apples into it, it effortlessly made the most beautiful applesauce I have ever seen. The design allowed for the legs to easily fit various bowls, the handle was comfortable and did not wear me out after 9 pounds of apples, and clean up was a breeze. I love this product, and would buy another, except it is made so well, it will probably out live me. If you are looking for a food mill, you won't be disappointed.

Summary: Just right... even for big jobs. 2010-08-26
Comment: After a few years of pushing applesauce through a sieve, it was time to get a food mill.
And I went BIG... About 30 pounds of apples. This food mill was up to the job. And the applesauce is delicious. And this time, I just chopped apples - no worrying about skins, seeds, nothin! It all goes into the pot. The food mill just takes it out.

It is sturdy, easy to assemble, comfortable to use, and EASY to clean! I briefly wished it was larger, so I wouldn't have to clean our the seeds, skins and yucky bit quite so often, but then it would be impractical for the smaller jobs I will mostly use it for, and it is a nice size to store.

The thing that really won me over is how simple it is to put together, change screens and clean. And it is sturdy with out being clunky. I would only want a bigger size if I were working in a professional kitchen - and I bet a bigger one would not be so sturdy, comfortable, and so easy to clean.

Oh, and if you get this, a ricer is redundant.

Summary: Could use more graduated discs 2010-08-24
Comment: I bought this largely on the strength of the reviews primarily to use for preparing hummus. The size was OK, construction of the body and crank seems pretty solid, but the discs provided are sized too far apart. Perhaps the strength of the spring that provides pressure on the food being milled is a bit weak (at least for chickpeas). I started with the finest disc and gave up after about 20 minutes and switched to coarse. I found the batch of chickpeas went through the coarse disc fairly easily, however even after going through the coarse disc when I then tried to mill again using the fine disc I again gave up after twenty minutes. I then ran the batch (ground once with coarsest disc) through the medium and it worked "OK" but still I had to resort to using a spoon to push through some of the end of the batch past the medium disc. More graduated discs or perhaps more pressure on the screw would allow to mill the food much faster through multiple stages to get the desired final texture.

I was tempted by 3 stars, but construction seems pretty solid (though design could be a bit better) so I ended up on 4 stars.

Summary: Food Mill 2010-08-17
Comment: "Simply amazing! exactly what I was looking for. I made some homemade tomato sauce, and was very pleased that it kept all of the seeds and tomato peel out. So easy to set up and clean. There's so many useful things you can use it for. I mainly got it for canning. One of most important tools in the kitchen. It came quicker than expected, that was a bonus. I recommended this to all my friends. This would make a great wedding gift for someone.

Summary: Food Mill by OXO 2010-08-15
Comment: I ordered the OXO Food Mill and have used it several times. It was a tremendous help in milling blackberries and grapes for jams and jellies. It is easy to use, stores nicely and does a great job of removing the seeds and skins from fruit. My jams and jellies were delicious. It is a real time saver. I would recommend this product to anyone interested in cooking.
